Arrived in Aguas and checked into our room at Muryurina. Check out the bug in our neighbors room... it was the size of my head and had nasty looking jaws! We ventured down to the office to buy our tix for Machu Picchu the next day. Had a little dinner and ventured around the tiny little town. Then I finally passed out.
Jon posing for an Inca Kola commercial. Yes its the color of pee and tastes like bubblegum!
We had a wake up call for 4am so we could get an early start up the path to MP. You can take a bus, but we thought it would be better to hike it. Somehow we spent more than an hour getting ready and as we left the hotel we saw the buses departing at the edge of the city. It became a race to see who could climb several thousand feet of elevation first! Needless to say the busses won and we missed the tix to climb the famous moutain Wayna Picchu inside the park. But it was a spectacular race and we did manage to still catch the sunrise over MP. Even better, we had the ONLY gorgeous clear sunny day for the next 8 days that day at MP. Once inside we hiked til we couldnt move anymore. To the top of MontaƱa Machu Picchu which sits almost twice as high as Wayna and gave the most amazing view of the entire ruins. After exploring around we took a little relaxing snooze in the middle of the grassy ruins, got eaten by the infamous MP sand flies and then planned our escape. We treated ourselves to the ridiculous $7 bus ride down the mountain deciding to save our energy for the next day´s adventures.
We spent the next 4 days in Aguas. Relaxing around the city, soaking in the questionable hot springs that were green and murky, taking day hikes to the Matador waterfalls, passing little farms and following the river as far as we could bare to walk.
