Ciao... :(

Back to Lima/Miraflores. We decided to splurge on our last night and booked a room at the double tree in Miraflores Lima. It is Peruvian owned but licenses the name from Hilton. You figure this out quickly by feeling like they try to get every penny out of you. BUT, the room was warm and the crisp clean sheets were lovely on the SOFT bed! So needed. A little sun peaked out and we walked down to the beach. Surprisingly it is impossible to get a beer or eat on the beach. Reserved only for local tennis clubs and the like, it is no San Diego party spot. So we walked back up the cliffs to Kennedy Park in the middle of the town and sat in street cafe for a beer. Had some dinner at a veggie restaurant (Im pretty sure Jon is going to eat only meat when he gets home), ventured to a REAL grocery store for chocolate and beers. And spent the last evening laying on the soft warm bed watching the Suns game and gorging on chocolate and cervezas.
Jon left at 3am this morning back to the states and I am set to adventure to northern Peru for the next 10 days before I head to Munich, Germany for my summer internship.

Funny things about Peru... despite being a major coffee exporter, everyone here drinks instant coffee. They mix it thick like diesel and then serve it with a thermos of hot water. On our first morning in Aguas we mistakenly poured it without adding much water and mistaking the frothy pineapple juice for milk (it was 4am) we had diesel pineappe sludge. Shudder. Bananas are almost free and in abundance everywhere. Guinea pig and alpaca are their main meat sources. Ew. Internet is surprisingly prevelant but incredibly slow. Taxis are stupidly cheap IF you know what youre doing. You can get someone to drive you for over an hour over giant mountains for just a couple dollars. If you dont know what you´re doing you´ll pay about $25. There is never toilet paper in the bathrooms so its good to carry some in your pocket at all times. Putting two ceramic torros on the top of your house brings you good luck.
